Need to understand how the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) work?
Go to Google and type in a keyword or search phrase that your customer would use to find your website. If you typed in a competitive keyword or keyword phrase, then you will see 1 to 3 shaded links at the top of the page. These are PAID listings called Pay Per Click (PPC). They are exactly as their name states. The advertiser pays each time a browser clicks on their listing. If you see 1 to 10 listings on the right hand side of the page, those are also PAID listings / Pay Per Click. Again, the advertiser pays each time a unique visitor clicks on those listings. They are on the right hand side of the page because they do not pay as much per click as those 3 websites at the top of the search engine page. If you placed a search using a keyword or keyword phrase that the search engine considers “competitive”, then you will see a map with 1 to 10 listings. These Local Listings could result on this map using a free (organic) or paid (SEM) SEO processes. This is a nice place to have a listing, though is geo targeted. After all of this, you will see 10 links and descriptions below the 3 PPC and / or the Local Map.
These are the organic search engine results.
There are only 10 on each search engine results page. NOTES: Paid listings are part of the “SEM” and not Organic SEO because people pay for the listings. They are called Pay Per Click (PPC). Organic listings or natural seo listings are unpaid. They rank per website code, creative and intelligent SEO marketing process. Google is the #1 search engine in the world. It is extremely important to have map listings and natural SEO listings on Google. In fact, you want to be in the “hot zone” which are the top 5 organic listings on the first search engine results page. Since there are only 10 organic listings per SERP, top rankings are not always easy to obtain. This is why people gravitate to SEM (Search Engine Marketing) and paying for advertisements, contextual listing, etc.
Excellent Organic SEO will avoid SEM expenses and get you to the top of the SERPs.
