This is the first time in history that we have heard colleagues saying that they prefer searching Bing to Goggling … Do we dare to tell Google? HECK NO … They were just having a temporary “temper tantrum” while Google was putting the plans into action. We believe the goal is to move Bing and Yahoo out of the way for good. Regardless of which search engine you prefer, do not ignore the fact that Google is on a mission to own the Internet in 2010. They are making incredible changes … kind of scary, too.
As “Big Brother” proceeds in the plight to become a SOCIAL SEARCH ENGINE, Googlian supporters are eagerly following along and sharing the changes with the world. Most have Gmail accounts up in one browser tab and Twitter in the other; making sure they are integrating as they should. Your success begins with one common boundary …
It all starts with a Google Profile – do you have one?
It all starts right here – http://www.google.com/profile – though most of us gained access from our Gmail accounts. Your profile is automatically established from within your account; you can edit it and buzz the day away from within your Gmail or use it as a stand alone.
The following is how to set up your Google Profile from within Gmail:
- Click the Settings link in the upper right hand corner of your Gmail.
- Click the Accounts and Import link.
- Click the Google Account Settings link ( last option)
- Set up your Google Profile as completely as possible. It is your Buzz life line.
Why is it important to have a Google Profile (Google Buzz Profile)?
As it states in the 4th bullet above, your Google Profile is your Google Buzz lifeline. Just as with any other social network, you need to register, set up your profile and use the network for the social and business advantages. In this case, the newtwork includes the whole suite of what Google has to offer and some newer features, too. They done well of implementing a package of products throughout the years. The Google Products integrate in our Google accounts.
What are the advantages of having a Google Profile?
It is your gateway to the Google Buzz social network. There if an About page that includes your Bio, information fields, links to your websites and social networks. There is a Contact page where your address, phone number and other regionally specific details are entered. Google members use your profile page to learn more about you. They can click a blue “Follow” button and use the service similarly to how we use Twitter.
While browsing Google for specific keywords and Google Caffeine changes, keep an eye out for a discrete line of text with links that reads: Results from people in your social circle for seo marketing - BETA - My social circle – My social content and the profiles featured below this information. They leads to the applicable Google Profiles for the keywords.
This feature clearly states that “My Social Circle” / “My Social Content” is in BETA …
